-- If you are looking for ideas to shorten the time you spend on land, in addition to general topics such as grinding the underwater hull, varnishing wooden parts, polishing, you will find good ideas in the Sailing Forum.

--------------------------------------------------------

A small group of enthusiastic skippers has found its way here, where, in cooperation with other forum members, ideas are being developed and interesting alternatives to commercial products and new products are presented.

At the moment there are projects on the following topics:

  • DIY wind sensor
Here a wireless wind sensor was constructed, which can transfer its data e.g. to a mobile phone/tablet. The supply voltage can be taken e.g. from an anchor light. The kit for self-assembly is available for 120 EUR. Due to the further development of the software more and more features are added...so at the moment the graphical representation of the wind history is being tweaked.

  • DIY Engine Diagnosis/Engine Management
Many older engines have little to no sensors to detect critical engine conditions and to generate a warning if necessary.
By means of a Rasperry Pi (a small computer) you can connect various sensors and monitor values such as coolant temperatures of the inner and outer circuit.

  • DIY Plotter
On Android basis there are different 7" displays with relatively small installation depth and relatively many interfaces. Here the idea came up to use this device as plotter - or e.g. at the chart table to display the tank levels etc...
This project started in autumn 2019.

  • DIY distance sensor
A project, which is to facilitate the mooring (e.g. with one-hand drive) by camera at the Saling. Also a quite fresh project.
Who has interest simply looks times in the Segel-Forum.de past and will find surely an interesting topics.

At the moment there are signs that the DIY projects will be presented at the Boot 2020 in Düsseldorf on their own booth. You can then find out everything about the projects on site. The same goes for the closely related topic of 3D printing.

On the LIESE successor, our LOTTE, the wind sensor 2020 will be mounted in the mast top and the engine diagnosis is also planned.

For all who visit the boat in Düsseldorf in January 2020. In all probability there will be a booth where the products can be seen. All further information can be found in the sailing forum (www.segeln-forum.de).

Have fun in the handicraft time,

Jörg
